… LAND AM STROME

Kaprun (A), 2013

The hydro-electric power stations of Kaprun are located in the alpine landscape of Austria, set between terraced, artificial lakes. Up until the 1950's, the main complex was considered a victory of how humans can harness the power of nature and a symbol for the reconstruction of Austria after the Second World War.

Gschwanter's works made from PVC tubing are filled with water from Lake Moserboden and Lake Tauernboden.

The collages are composed of polaroids and citations from the stage play Das Werk, written by Nobel prize-winner Elfriede Jelinek. Her play is about the forced labour during its hazardous construction under the Nazi  regime and the repression of history in post-war Austria.
